| 内容記述 | The Torres Strait Region, as discussed here, includes the Torres Strait Islands, Daru, on the southeast coast of Papua New Guinea, the coastline opposite Daru, and the Fly River Delta, such as Kiwai Island. Present-day locations and types of settlements are the first topics surveyed in the paper. Various characteristics of present-day (1975-1979) dwelling houses are examined in comparison with the data obtained by A. C. Haddon and his Cambridge Anthropological Expedition (late 19th century) in order to elucidate stylistic changes. High-elevated houses, Round houses, and Longhouses are compared with those in Southeast Asia and Oceania (particularly Melanesia), focusing on geographical distributions. |
