They originated from the \nQinzhou-Lianzhou area, which now belongs to Guangxi, China. Through the \n20th century, the Ngai migrated and dispersed throughout Southern Vietnam, \nSoutheast China, Europe, America, and Australia. They were forced to recon\u0002struct their identity to adapt to new situation. Following the restoration of \nChinese diaspora organizations in 1989, the Ngai (Nung-Chinese) partici\u0002pated in the Tsung Tsin General Association, as part of the Hakka organiza\u0002tion from Qinzhou-Lianzhou. This Association is the Head Office of the \nHakka Organization in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Currently, in southern Vietnam, the Da-fan (Big Streamer) Salvation Ritual is regarded as a special \nethnic Ngai custom showing the distinction between the Ngai and Guangdong \nHakka. The sustainable connection between the Ngai migrants and their \nhomeland has been strengthened through these ritual performances, while the \nNgai’s short-term identification as the Hakka has withered.
