But I hold there are at least three problems to\nthis classification, as follows:\nFirst, it lacks a standardized criteria for subclassification\nof musical instruments.\nSecond, the question arises whether so-called \"reed\ninstruments\" might belong in the \"aerophones\" category or\nnot, at least as far as the method of producing sound is concerned.\nThird, in the primary classifications, \"electrophones\"\nseems to be a heterogeneous category.\nThough some scholars have pointed out these questions, especially\nregarding the first problems, and although some methods\nfor classification have been proposed, no new theories as a substitute\nfor the popular MHS method have so far found acceptance\nwith a majority of scholars.\nTaking an idea from instrumental acoustics, a field which has\nrecently made rapid progress, I have worked out a new method\nfor primary classifications based upon the sound producing object\n—that object which produces the first physical vibrations in the\nprocess of making a sound.
