Professor Tsuboi was interested in archaeology and\nmaterial culture related to folk-customs in Japan. He also undertook\nan extensive study of changing patterns of clothing, under the\ncontemporary impact of western culture. Later, together with his\nsuccessor, Ryuzo Torii, Professor Tsuboi did fieldwork in Northern\nand other parts of Asia, where their interests embraced a balanced\nmix of archaeology, ethnography and material culture.\nAnother important figure in Japanese anthropology is Keizo\nShibusawa, a businessman and, soon after the World War II, a\nMinister of Finance. In 1921 he established a small private\nmuseum, the \"Attic Museum\", in his own home. Mr. Shibusawa\nand his group collected and studied straw sandals and hats, clothes\nand various kinds of utensils traditionally used by Japanese peasants.\nDuring the 1920's, this group greatly accelerated the study of\nmaterial culture, and their method gradually became the basic\norientation for the field. It should be noted, however, that their\ninterest was focused only on the geographical distribution of each\nitem, and did not extend to the holistic study of the cultural context.\nAs a result, the study of material culture was somewhat isolated\nfrom the mainstream of anthropology which had focused on social\nand kinship organization and ethnohistory among other things.\nThis situation exists even today, and most anthropologists in Japan\nare little inclined to study material culture.\nConsequently, the authors emphasize that material culture\nshould be studied from the \"functionalistic\" perspective, within\na holistic framework. Hence the structural analysis of the relationship\nbetween man and material culture should be a basic subject,\nand the influence of material culture on man should also be carefully\nstudied as an important topic in this changing society. In Japan,\nfor example, the disappearance of the irori, or traditional hearth\non the floor of rural houses, resulted in the destruction of the strictly\ninstitutionalized seating arrangements around the hearth, thereby\naccelerating the change of interpersonal relationships within the\nfamily.\nAmong other aspects emphasized by the authors are the\nimportance of understanding the \"folk system\", in addition to\n\"analytical system\" of technology, for example, the need for census\nstudy of a large sample of a single artifact in order to trace individual\nvariations within a community; and the urgent need to\ninclude automobiles, refregerators, and other modern devices in\nthe analysis and understanding of the present-day folk-life both in\ncity and village.\nThe discussion is elaborated with examples drawn from three\npieces of research that the authors recently undertook : Ohtsuka's\nstudy of fishing communities in Hokkaido, which emphasizes the\nexistence of individual variations of fishing implements within a\ncommunity and the relationship with each fisherman's skill and\nhabit; Nakamura's study of the classification and distribution of\nhoes among agricultural villages in flatland areas; and Ogyu's field\nsurvey of recent changes in the material culture of Akiyama, long\nfamous as one of the most isolated mountain village regions in\ncentral Japan, but which, since about 1970, has been rapidly\nchanging under the influence of tourism.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_9_identifier_registration":{"attribute_name":"ID登録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.15021/00004585","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_9_publisher_33":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"国立民族学博物館"}]},"item_9_publisher_34":{"attribute_name":"出版者(英)","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"National Museum of Ethnology"}]},"item_9_source_id_10":{"attribute_name":"書誌レコードID","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"AN00091943","subitem_source_identifier_type":"NCID"}]},"item_9_source_id_8":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"0385-180X","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"}]},"item_9_version_type_16":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"祖父江, 孝男"},{"creatorName":"ソフエ, タカオ","creatorNameLang":"ja-Kana"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{},{},{},{}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"大給, 近達"},{"creatorName":"オギュウ, チカサト","creatorNameLang":"ja-Kana"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"中村, 俊亀智"},{"creatorName":"ナカムラ, シュンキチ (タカオ)","creatorNameLang":"ja-Kana"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{},{},{},{}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"大塚, 和義"},{"creatorName":"オオツカ, カズヨシ","creatorNameLang":"ja-Kana"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{},{},{},{}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2015-11-19"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"KH_003_2_004.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"5.9 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"KH_003_2_004.pdf","url":"https://minpaku.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/4593/files/KH_003_2_004.pdf"},"version_id":"36a88e12-a269-4566-ac29-c56e8defedd4"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"jpn"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"物資文化研究の方法をめぐって","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"物資文化研究の方法をめぐって","subitem_title_language":"ja"},{"subitem_title":"On the Method of Studying Material Culture","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"9","owner":"17","path":["493"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"PubDate","attribute_value":"2010-02-16"},"publish_date":"2010-02-16","publish_status":"0","recid":"4593","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["物資文化研究の方法をめぐって"],"weko_creator_id":"17","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-08-02T06:24:59.711574+00:00"}
