Statistical analysis indicates that there are clear and meaningful differences between these ethnic groups. Considerable regional variations in personality exist within Japan for some items examined, whereas others vary only slightly. In general, variation is far less clear than expected. Research data indicate that the_ kenminsei-(-p refectural- personalities) discussed frequently by the general public seem to exist, although they are not particularly distinct and should not be overstressed.
