Film editing has been compared with the art of tailoring. Ethnological research requires accurate data, rather than "charming" anecdote. Accuracy must therefore predominate during shooting. But creation of a good image requires sensitive cutting. A good ethnographical film maker should think historically, using a "montage," characteristic of the work of Dziga Vertov, and of others.
