Murra for the interpretation\nof the historical record of Andean societies. The concept of the\nvertical control is considered to be important and useful in understanding\nAndean societies and cultures, because it refers not\nmerely to problems of the subsistence economy but also involves\na basic nature of the socio-political formation of traditional\nAndean society in general.\nAs an analytical framework, however, there are still many\npoints that need to be theoretically clarified as well as factually\nverified with regard to the notion of vertical control in itself.\nNaturally, the mode of vertical or altitudinal control is by no\nmeans free from regional variations and diachronic transformations,\non which the substantial data are still lacking. Detailed\ndescriptive studies of the actual mode of vertical control are,\ntherefore, urgently required. This article is mainly concerned\nwith that rather than with the theoretical sophistication of\nMurra's arguments.\nThis description is based on data collected by the author\nduring fieldwork conducted in 1978-80 in the northwest of the\nDepartment of La Paz, Bolivia. The main intensive research\ntook place in Titicachi, an upper-valley agricultural community\nof Quechua-speakers, located in the south of Ayata, Province of\nMuriecas. Extensive surveys were also done in adjacent areas.\nThe substantive data are provided in chapters 3-5. Chapter\n3 gives a sketch of agricultural production and daily consumption\nin Titicachi, a typical \"maize village\" in the upper-valley altitude\n(approximately 2800 to 3500 m). Chapter 4 depicts the three\ntypes of customary trade : (1) direct exchanges of goods in the\nqhatu, or weekly fair, in Ayata and in Huanco; (2) seasonal trade\nwith distant areas, namely the Peruvian highland on the one\nhand, and the pre-Andine foothills of Camata and Conzata on\nthe other; and (3) occasional barter with various groups of peddlers.\nChapter 5 examines the mode of barter, including the\nrate of exchange, in terms of the vernacular concepts of the unit\nof exchange.\nThe typical pattern of inter-altitudinal trade engaged in by\nthe upper-valley maize producers is as follows : Through trade\nwith highland villages they barter their crops for salt, chuno, or\nfreeze-dried potato, alpaca products, especially jerkey meat and\nunspun wool, and such ritual objects as llama fat and fetuses,\nas well as a variety of medicinal herbs. Through trade with the\nlower valley and the subtropical lowlands, on the other hand,\nthey obtain various fruits, coca leaves, and seasonings, such as\nthe red pepper and the bixa fruit to prepare achote powder, in\nexchange for their own maize crops or some of the goods they\nobtained from the highland.\nSuch a traditional system can no longer be observed in its\npure form nowadays, due to the penetration of the urban-centered\ndistribution of goods that has an increasing influence on Andean\nrural life. However, the barter system is not just dying out under\nthe pressure of the modern market economy, since the local people\nseem to have managed to make the traditional manner of trueque\ngo hand-in-hand with the market economy. This has resulted,\nat least in part, in a sort of symbiotic relationship between monetary\nand non-monetary systems.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_9_identifier_registration":{"attribute_name":"ID登録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.15021/00004403","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_9_publisher_33":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"国立民族学博物館"}]},"item_9_publisher_34":{"attribute_name":"出版者(英)","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"National Museum of Ethnology"}]},"item_9_source_id_10":{"attribute_name":"書誌レコードID","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"AN00091943","subitem_source_identifier_type":"NCID"}]},"item_9_source_id_8":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"0385-180X","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"}]},"item_9_version_type_16":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"細川, 弘明"},{"creatorName":"ホソカワ, コウメイ","creatorNameLang":"ja-Kana"},{"creatorName":"Hosokawa, Koomei","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2015-11-19"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"KH_010_2_003.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"5.1 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"KH_010_2_003.pdf","url":"https://minpaku.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/4411/files/KH_010_2_003.pdf"},"version_id":"dab5e85d-a588-45e2-ba86-1adf99f8fdd5"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"jpn"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"アンデス東斜面溪谷部,ケチュア農民の生業と交易活動","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"アンデス東斜面溪谷部,ケチュア農民の生業と交易活動"},{"subitem_title":"Subsistence and Trade Activities of Quechua Peasants in the Upper Valley Slope of the Eastern Central Andes","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"9","owner":"17","path":["465"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2010-02-16"},"publish_date":"2010-02-16","publish_status":"0","recid":"4411","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["アンデス東斜面溪谷部,ケチュア農民の生業と交易活動"],"weko_creator_id":"17","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-06-20T19:26:52.441361+00:00"}
