The\nformer has been applied to specific magico-religious beliefs\nand practices in Siberia and Central Asia, following Mircea\nEliade's classic usage. On the other hand, several African\nreligious traditions have been practically excluded from shamanism\nand given another equally renowned term, spirit-possession.\nRecent anthropological studies on this topic have made it clear\nthat these \"two\" cultural-complexes, which have been treated\nseparately, have, in fact, much in common, and should be\ncategorized under some more general concept, such as \"culturally\ninstitutionalized Altered States of Consciousness.\"\nIn this paper, I do not presuppose any mutually exclusive\ndefinitions of \"shamanism\" and \"spirit-possession.\" This partly\nfollows the recent trend mentioned above, but partly is required\nby the topic of this paper: shamanistic or mediumistic religious\ntradition in northern Brazil.\nIn this Amazonian region, where local shamanistic tradition,\ninherited from Amerindian cultures, has its strength and is\npartially intermingled with folk Catholicism, essentially different\nmediumistic traditions were introduced from West and Central\nAfrica as by-product of the Atlantic slave trade. These Africanderived\nreligions, so called Afro-Brazilian cults, did not penetrate\nso pervasively in the North as in the Northeastern sugar-producing\nareas. But in the northern cities, like Belem (Para), this religious\ntrend, influenced by local shamanic tradition, formed a series of\nhighly syncretized possession cults, generically called Batuque in\nthe anthropological literature.\nIn this paper, one of the distinctive characteristics of these\ncults is depicted : that is, the highly individualized relation between\nshaman-mediums and possessing-spirits. In the course of\nshamanizing processes this factor plays a decisive role for the\nshaman-mediums to adopt specific ritual forms to venerate their\nspirit-protectors and \"work\" with them, because every spirit\nreveals itself with its unique character and specifies obrigacdo, or\nritual requirements, to each medium. Therefore, the mediums,\nwho usually \"receive\" various spirits and owe religious obligations\nto them, gradually accumulate various ritual forms and end up\nmaking unique combinations between them.\nHaving this kind of inherent individualistic tendency, the\nBatuque is likely to fall apart. But, so far, this has not occurred,\nowing to two core ritual-forms as structuring models for the whole\nsystem. These two ritual forms, Cura and Tambor, provide each\npractitioner with a sound basis for weaving his own network of\ncommunication with his possessing-spirits. These two forms\ninherit their main characteristics from pajelanfa (local shamanism)\nand African-derived possession cults, respectively. Aside from\nthe most apparent contrast between them (the absence or presence\nof musical instruments, such as drums, in rituals), there is another\nsignificant difference: the former stresses inherent supernatural\nability (nascefre ito) of shamans whereas the latter demands formal\ninitiation and apprenticeship (fazer santo). These contrastive\nfeatures are closely related to the actual forms of practice: solitary\n\"curing\" sessions vs. festive group-rituals. This bipolar system\nis so deeply rooted in the Batuque that various ritual practices from\nvaried sources have been and are being rearranged to fit in with\nthe preexisiting system and incorporated into the Batuque.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_9_identifier_registration":{"attribute_name":"ID登録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.15021/00004331","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_9_publisher_33":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"国立民族学博物館"}]},"item_9_publisher_34":{"attribute_name":"出版者(英)","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"National Museum of Ethnology"}]},"item_9_source_id_10":{"attribute_name":"書誌レコードID","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"AN00091943","subitem_source_identifier_type":"NCID"}]},"item_9_source_id_8":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"0385180X","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"}]},"item_9_version_type_16":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"古谷, 嘉章"},{"creatorName":"フルヤ, ヨシアキ","creatorNameLang":"ja-Kana"},{"creatorName":"Furuya, Yoshiaki","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2015-11-19"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"KH_013_1_003.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"4.2 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"KH_013_1_003.pdf","url":"https://minpaku.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/4339/files/KH_013_1_003.pdf"},"version_id":"9eeb25cf-e292-4535-8720-7719ae4ebbd8"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"jpn"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"クーラとタンボール : 北部ブラジルの憑霊カルトにおける成巫過程","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"クーラとタンボール : 北部ブラジルの憑霊カルトにおける成巫過程"},{"subitem_title":"Cura and Tambor : Shamanizing Process of Possession Cults in Northern Brazil","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"9","owner":"17","path":["454"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2010-02-16"},"publish_date":"2010-02-16","publish_status":"0","recid":"4339","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["クーラとタンボール : 北部ブラジルの憑霊カルトにおける成巫過程"],"weko_creator_id":"17","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-06-20T19:36:44.313355+00:00"}
