D. 1400 and conquered most of Madagascar founding\nthe Merina Kingdom. As a lingua franca Javanese spread throughout\nthe country and got creolized with the language of the antecedent occupants\nof Madagascar, who were composed of the coexistent peoples,\nincluding the preceding Indonesians, Africans, and Arabs.\nThe initial Austronesian settlement might have been, as 0. C. Dahl\nsupposed, underway by about A. D. 400 among the Barito peoples in\nSouth Kalimantan under the reign of the Indianized Kutai Kingdom at\nthat time.\nInth is paper, Sakiyama suggests the appropriateness of that dating\nby accumulating the regional cognates, which are characteristic of the\ntwo areas, Madagascar and South Kalimantan, and by presenting the\ndistinct Javanicisms which appeared subsequently in modern Malagasy\nidioms.\nIn particular, by basing its analysis on the comparison of the folkvocabularies\nand the plant names from a standpoint of the semantic\nchanges, this study will become a first attempt to chronologize and to\ndetermine the original places of Madagascar migration and its languageformations.\nThe author's presentation on migrations has the following stages in\nthis paper: 1. Pre-South Kalimantan and South Sulawesi Age, 2. Post-\nSouth Kalimantan Age, 3. East Africa Age, 4.
