Up until now, a lack of information has made it difficult to study the history of Guangxi society and the early days of the Taiping. The aim of this article is to ascertain the historical and socio-anthropological features of the middle class lineages who migrated there. The migration of these lineages to Pingnan started in the 16th century, many of the migrants being soldiers dispatched to suppress the local Yao (A) minorities. They occupied an extensive land area under the protection of the Dynastic army, and they achieved economic success owing to their power of tax collection delegated by the Dynasty. The soldier migrants established their reputation by supervising public enterprises in the migrant society. During the Qing Dynasty, the soldier migrants fell from influence because they lost their hereditary posts. They could not cohere their lineage organizations and failed at the civil service examinations as they lacked educational facilities to bring up talented persons effectively in their lineages. As a result, they could not join the Kuji (V) elite group of influential migrant lineages and acquire political power. The middle class lineages, the soldier migrants included, took on a behavioral pattern, known as wen2 xig6(温食)in Cantonese, according to which they pursued several different occupations at the same time in order to maintain the status quo, while reducing the danger of complete failure. Their actions assumed a fluidity, with some low class members engaged in mean occupations. The upper and-middle class membeis tried to have some connection with local government service to maintain their leadership, but Hu Yi Huang failed. He took part in the Taiping movement as a form of went xig6.}, pages = {501--546}, title = {明清期の中国広西東南部における中流宗族の動向 : 平南県胡以晄一族の族譜分析を中心に}, volume = {20}, year = {1996}, yomi = {キクチ, ヒデアキ} }
