In particular, it examines the operational\nsequence (chaine operatoire) of making utilitarian pottery in\nTidore, Northern Maluku, Indonesia. The problem of the cognitive\nsystem concerned in pottery making is also addressed.\nThe Maluku (Moluccas) of Indonesia have been famous for their\nspice trade since the 15th century. Although the importance of spices\nfor subsistence has gradually decreased, the traditional economic system\nbased on market exchange has continued until today. In particular, subsistence\nactivities in the Tidore Region have been characterized by communities\nspecializing in products (i.e. pottery, iron tools, stone tools,\nbaskets, fish or vegetables) .\nThe women on the Island of Mare, south of the Island of Tidore,\nhave kept up a traditional technology for making utilitarian pottery.\nThis includes various kinds of pots and vessels used for cooking tubers,\nrice, fish and sago powder. Since the Island of Mare is not rich in other\nmeans of subsistence such as large-scale gardens, the pottery vessels pro-\nduced here have been the main source of obtaining cash for generations.\nThe people on Mare Island are now the sole provider of pottery\nthroughout the Northern Maluku, and their products are transported to\nmost of the adjacent islands, as far as Irian Jaya. It is the men of each\nhousehold that engage in this sea-trade.\nDetailed observations have been made of the process of pottery making.\nThe research did not aim just to describe standardized manufacturing\nstages. Observations were directed toward explicating both norm\nand deviation of manufacturing behaviors between and within individuals.\nAlso many questions were put to the potters, concerning their\nrecognition of (1) manufacturing stages, (2) morphology of unfinished\nproducts, (3) kinds of behaviors used to shape various parts of pottery,\nand (4) the process of decoration.\nAs a result of the observations, it has been shown that pottery\nmanufacturing technology on Mare Island consists of a body of structured\nknowledge of the physical and morphological nature of materials\nand manufacturing tools. Potters also seem to have a practical\nknowledge system concerning (1) the taxonomy of unfinished products,\n(2) the geometry of parts (e.g. topology and partonomy), and (3)\ndecorative elements and structures. The process of shaping pottery and\ndecorating it is also constrained by several factors, such as the recognition\nof symmetricity, the motor habits of the human body, and the\nphysical characteristics of materials and tools.\nIn conclusion, the manufacturing design of pottery is a hierarchy of\ndecision-making that consists of the interplay between objects (making\nparticular types of pottery in certain numbers) and constraints. The\nobscure concept of \"cultural tradition\" should be replaced with this\nhierarchical and processual view of material styles.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_9_identifier_registration":{"attribute_name":"ID登録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.15021/00004152","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_9_publisher_33":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"国立民族学博物館"}]},"item_9_publisher_34":{"attribute_name":"出版者(英)","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"National Museum of Ethnology"}]},"item_9_source_id_10":{"attribute_name":"書誌レコードID","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"AN00091943","subitem_source_identifier_type":"NCID"}]},"item_9_source_id_8":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"0385-180X","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"}]},"item_9_version_type_16":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"後藤, 明"},{"creatorName":"ゴトウ, アキラ","creatorNameLang":"ja-Kana"},{"creatorName":"Goto, Akira","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"7922","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2015-11-19"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"KH_022_1_003.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"5.9 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"KH_022_1_003.pdf","url":"https://minpaku.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/4160/files/KH_022_1_003.pdf"},"version_id":"79435683-872f-494b-a80f-bfe9a04c83fa"}]},"item_keyword":{"attribute_name":"キーワード","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"北マルク|ティドレ|土器|製作デザイン|製作工程|物質文化|スタイル","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Northern Maluku|Tidore|pottery|manufacturing design|operational sequence|material culture|style","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"jpn"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"実践的問題解決過程としての技術 : 東部インドネシア・ティドレ地方の土器製作","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"実践的問題解決過程としての技術 : 東部インドネシア・ティドレ地方の土器製作"},{"subitem_title":"Technology as a Process of Practical Problem Solving : Pottery Making in Tidore, Northern Maluku, Indonesia","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"9","owner":"17","path":["418"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2010-02-16"},"publish_date":"2010-02-16","publish_status":"0","recid":"4160","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["実践的問題解決過程としての技術 : 東部インドネシア・ティドレ地方の土器製作"],"weko_creator_id":"17","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-06-20T17:18:49.230878+00:00"}
