This article aims to analyze the impact\nof those new experiences (or a new ideology acquired via these experiences)\nupon what can be called the system of Endenese \"traditional\"\ndiscourse, with a special reference to another \"new\" ideology introduced\nby modernization, especially through the Indonesian education system.\nThe latter, that is the newly introduced \"modern\" ideology has its\nown  position in the Endenese universe of discourse, standing along with\nthe traditional system of discourse, in the following way: one can switch\nfrom one system of knowledge to another freely during the course of\neveryday conversation without causing any trouble to the flow of conversation.\nEducated people (\"ana sekola\") talk much about knowledge acquired\nthrough their education.\nIn contrast to those educated people, those who have been abroad\nseldom talk about the knowledge acquired, supposedly, in their experience ab\nroad. Instead, their experience is integrated into, or rather,\nobjectified in , the traditional system of discourse as a \"modern world\", a\nniche in the ideology comparable to the place occupied by the category\n'non-kin' in Endenese kinship \"talk\". This phenomenon can be compared\nto the way in which traditional society, say Endenese society, is in- tegrated into the \"government talk\", occupying a niche for \"traditional\nsociety\", or \"daerah terkebelakang\" (\"the most backward region\").
