A large number of mandalas depicted on copper or stone plates\nare installed at various places, such as the court yard of a Newar Buddhist\ntemple,or at a crossroads in a town.\nThe Newar people inherited Mahayana Buddhism together with its\niconographic tradition from India, before Indian Mahayana Buddhism\ndisappeared in the thirteenth century A.D.. The varieties of Newar\nBuddhist mandalas found in the Kathmandu Valley are almost identical\nto those of the Indian Buddhist mandalas explained in texts, such as the\nNispannayogava1 or the Vajravali. Even today Newar painters con-\ntinue drawing mandalas according to their tradition, which is very\nsimilar to the Indian one.\nThe Dharmadhatuvagisvara Manjusri Mandala is one of the most\nwell-known manadalas in the Kathmandu Valley. In this paper we will\nconsider the Dharmadhatuvagisvara (or Dharmadhatu) mandalas of\nthree Newar Buddhist temples in Patan City, namely, the Haka Bahal,\nthe Na Bahal, and the Bu Bahal.
