The overall\nliving situation and conditions of urban Inuit in Canada are relatively\nunknown. In this paper, I will describe the reasons why Inuit migrated\nfrom their home communities to the urban environment of Montreal\nand their socio-economic situation as of 1997. I then will discuss\nchanges in the life styles and ethnic identities of these \"urban Inuit\".\nInuit living in Montreal have not yet established a distinct community or\nurban culture. Rather, Montreal Inuit exhibit emerging multiple identities\nthat may relate to such factors as prolonged city residence and\nmarriage to non-Inuit.
