Religious places and activities are connected\nto a specific religious ideology, and their natures require clarification\nunder the influence of the communal discourse.\nThe two saints interred at the mausoleums served the Sufi saint as\ndisciples, although they were high caste Hindus, and they lived through\nthe liminality between the communal boundaries of Hinduism and\nIslam. The mausoleums were constructed from the end of the 1980s\nthrough the 1990s, when communalism was resurgent in India. Their\nstructure and the religious practices observed at them, however, cleverly\nfuse both Sufi and Hindu elements.\nThis article tries to show how the saint and his disciples struggled to\ncreate and sustain their own religious practices and negotiate with communal\ndiscourse, by analyzing the symbolism of the mausoleums and\ninterviews with the disciples.
