The\nKenyan national election, which was held on Dec. 27, 2007, caused a major\ndisruption in that country. The ethnic claim over political resources during the\nelection also caused confrontation among pastoralists in Laisamis constituency\nthat had preserved a symbiotic relationship for a long time. To ensure that the\nintroduction of a multi-party system in African countries will be a suffi cient\ncondition for a democratic political system, eliminating ethnic antagonism\nis a key factor. Nevertheless, since the introduction of a multi-party system\nin Kenya in 1992, many ethnic groups have been newly created, or re-created,\nand inter-ethnic confl icts and disputes in relation to political issues have\ntaken place frequently. That is, it is necessary to seek opportunities for dialog\namong groups with different interests that were constructed in the process of\nthe election campaign under the multi-party system. The marginalized pastoral\nsociety in Kenya has asserted various styles of ethnical identity according to\nthe political, economic, social, and cultural conditions at any given time.
