Taking the opportunity of revolution in China in 1911, Mongolia declared her independence and the independent situation has been maintained with many trials and tribulations. The most critical problem of Mongolia in the 20th century was how to survive between China and Russia. The Mongolian way of modern nation building was deeply influenced by its geopolitical situation, especially in the period of the “Double Cold War”, that is, the Cold War after the Second World War and the Sino-Soviet confrontation after 1960. When relations between China and Soviet Russia broke down and subsequently led to military confrontation, Mongolia became a much more important region for Soviet Russia. Consequently Mongolia, which had reduced military spending after the Second World War, began to expand it again, supported by Russia in 1964. Because of the rapid expansion of armaments, many problems arose in the armed forces. But those problems were not reported in detail by official documents at that time. So the author interviewed retired soldiers who had served in the military during the period of the “Double Cold War”. According to their narratives, the author describes life in the basic army units and also makes clear the reality of the army in Mongolia. Through the acquirement of knowledge about the influence of international relations on ordinary soldiers, we can come to understand a neglected aspect of modernization.}, pages = {139--230}, title = {1960~1980年代におけるモンゴル人民軍の生活実態 : 20世紀のモンゴル社会を解読する1 つの手がかり}, volume = {35}, year = {2010}, yomi = {ナランゲレル} }
