After being stagnant for \nsome years, their museum activities developed considerably in the mid1990s. The article is intended to explain the social conditions underpinning \ntheir success. By referring to the concept of field, as defined by French\nsociologist Pierre Bourdieu, this article presents an exploration of the development of the museum activities as a process by which Soshisha continued to \nreorganize practices with the possibilities and constraints brought by the \ntransformation in the Minamata disease field in the 1990s.
