| 内容記述 | This paper describes several sets of traditional navigational knowledge employed by navigators in the Central Caroline Islands of Micronesia. It includes Senong, YarhuwOw, Rheaniy, Tunui Men Anufa, Serhakinimasaccha, Ripweripwen Anan Aniairhe, Fefen Perhan Yayufan, and Fee Yiyas. Each set of knowledge contains hypothetical voyages between islands and reefs scattered in Micronesian waters. It also refers to encounters with fish, whale, sea birds, and driftwoods which are inferred as being esoteric and unrealistic in shape. Similarly, the knowledge includes evoked images in which a fisherman or navigator pursues reef fish which escape from one hole to another. Furthermore, navigational routes taken in imaginary voyages often create images of dorsalfin, stone weir, or a whole fish shape. Contrary to earlier assumptions that these items of knowledge are useful only esoterically and for group identity used by navigators of different schools and experiences, these items also serve navigators to spontaneously create images and maps for space allocation during voyages. The seemingly esoteric knowledge then bears the practical significance for location finding and in making marine charts. |
