| 内容記述 | 本論文では，カナダ極北地域における有機汚染物質や重金属類，放射性核種 による海洋資源，特に海棲哺乳動物資源の汚染問題について紹介し，この問題 に対して国際連合や極北諸国，イヌイット環極北会議，カナダ政府，ケベック 州政府，カナダ・イヌイット協会，カティヴィク地方政府，そしてヌナヴィク 地域とヌナヴト準州のイヌイットがどのように対応してきたかを記述する。こ の問題について地元のイヌイットとそれ以外の団体や人々との間には，認識や 行動，現実の対応に関してかなりの乖離がみられることを強調しておく。最後 に，この汚染問題に関して文化人類学者が果たすことができる役割について検 討を加える。筆者は，イヌイットの文化や社会を長期にわたって調査してきた 文化人類学者は，他のアクターと有機的に協力すれば，イヌイットと外部社会 を取り結ぶ文化の仲介者として，さらに資源の共同管理を立案し実施するうえ でイヌイットと政府関係者の両者の助言者として，この問題の改善や解決に貢 献できると主張する。 |

| 内容記述 | In this paper, I describe pollution problems of marine resources, especially sea mammals in the Canadian Arctic resulting from the intrusion of persistent organic pollutants, heavy metals, and radionuclides from regions external to the Arctic. Then, I show how the UN, Arctic countries, the Inuit Circumpolar Conference, the federal government of Canada, the provincial government of Quebec, the Tapirisat of Canada, the Kativik regional government, and Inuit in Nunavik and Nunavut villages have responded to these pollutants. A significant gap between the Inuit in the arctic villages and other actors is observed in terms of perception, behavior and practical responses concerning the pollution problems. Finally, the important roles of cultural anthropologists in improving the situation and solving the problems will be discussed. I argue that arctic anthropologists in organic cooperation with other actors concerned with the problems, can contribute to improving and solving the problems as cultural mediators between the local Inuit and outside societies, and as advisors for both the local people and government officials in planning and implementing the co-management of wildlife resources in the arctic. |
