In 1921 the Attic Museum was founded at Mita, Minatoku,
by Keizo Shibusawa. He and his followers conducted
studies on the folk tools and utensils of Japan. Although
they presented their research results on footwear, snow shoes,
and basketry, among other topics, and they contributed much
to material culture studies, in Japan, their work is little known.
I have analized the Attic Museum catalog and investigated
how the collections were actually used in the studies made by
Shibusawa and his associates.
